Collective Worship
As a Church of England school, our Collective Worship is:
Inclusive
We welcome and respect everyone, regardless of background, faith, or belief. Our worship reflects the diversity of our school community and provides opportunities for all children to engage in a way that is meaningful to them. Children are always given the freedom to reflect quietly and participate in ways they feel comfortable.
Invitational
We invite, rather than expect, children to take part in prayer, reflection, and spiritual exploration. Pupils are encouraged to think deeply, ask questions, and consider their own beliefs and values. There is no pressure to participate in any particular way, everyone’s journey is personal and respected.
Inspiring
Our worship aims to inspire children to live well together and to make a positive difference in the world. Through stories, reflection, music, and prayer, we encourage pupils to develop compassion, courage, and a sense of responsibility, empowering them to live out our vision in their daily lives.
What Collective Worship Looks Like
Collective Worship takes place daily and may include:
- Whole-school worship led by staff
- Worship led by pupils, giving children a voice and leadership opportunities
- Visits from clergy and members of the local church community
- Storytelling, music, and singing
- Prayer and quiet reflection
- Celebration of achievements and acts of kindness
Each act of worship typically follows a gentle structure of gathering, engaging, reflecting, and responding, helping children connect with the theme and consider its meaning in their lives.
Pupil Involvement
Children play an important role in shaping worship at Rushton CE First School. They are encouraged to:
- Plan and lead acts of worship
- Share prayers and reflections
- Suggest themes linked to our values and vision
- Reflect on and evaluate worship experiences
This involvement helps children develop confidence, leadership, and a sense of belonging, as they actively live out our vision to “let their light shine.”
A Space for Reflection
We provide opportunities and spaces for stillness and reflection throughout the school. These moments allow children to pause, think, and explore their thoughts and feelings, supporting their spiritual wellbeing as well as their personal growth.
Living Out Our Values
Collective Worship supports and strengthens our school values, encouraging children to demonstrate love, respect, forgiveness, and compassion in their everyday actions. It helps pupils understand how they can be a light to others in school, at home, and in the wider community.
Our Commitment
Through Collective Worship, we aim to nurture a caring, supportive environment where every individual is encouraged to flourish. By embracing the principles of being inclusive, invitational, and inspiring, we ensure that our worship reflects the heart of our school and the hope of our vision:
“Let your light shine before others.”
